DownBeat is a form of electronic music popular in Ambara Down. Those who perform it call themselves “musicmancers,” as the performances are often accompanied by elaborate light shows and the musicmancers themselves may bear cybernetic or other enhancements.

DownBeat often has heavy bass, including subsonic tones, multiple harmonics, and the juxtaposition of minor chords. While DownBeat is recorded for playback later, live performances often have the musicmancers using their equipment to enhance, extend, and remix the music on the fly.

Some musicmancers insert the sounds of sex into their music, but the better ones (including Chrome, who considers herself the best of all) frown on the practice.
